Golden Temple
The Goldern Temple is a spectacular symbol of spiritual and historical traditions of Sikhs. The temple has been a source of inspiration to the Sikhs ever since its commencement and foundation. The temple is an incomparable establishment as a holy place, as a place of Almighty worship. The whole atmosphere in Harmandir Sahib is blossomed with spiritual antiquity. The recital of hyms, the divine Gurbani inside the Golden Temple gives an ethereal feeling of being in heaven. The other distinguishing features of the structure of the Harminder was that it was open on all four sides symbolizing that it was open for one and all.
Durgiana Tirath
The Durgiana Tirath is the biggest Hindu temple in the city, another place of worship and pilgrimage attraction. The temple has an air of spaciousness, spiritual glory and heavenly sanctity. Mata Sitla Temple in the complex is believed to be over 450 years old. During Dussehra and Diwali the temple is illuminated with lights of purity and solemnity.
Jallianwala Bagh
The Jallianwala Bagh is the most historical place in Amritsar. the denouncement of the Rowlatt Act was the ultimate cause of the unrest that led to the Jallianwala Bahg massacre. A public meeting was held on 13th April , 1919 at Jallianwala Bahg Meidan to defy the authorities and assert the peoples's right to assemble and protest. Lt.Governor O' Dwyer appeared on scene and ordered non-stop firing to disperse the crowd. It was a complete disaster. the outrage shocked the entire world. Jallianwala bahg massacre stands witness to a barbarian folly resulting in the disastrous killing of innumerable persons.
Wagah Border (Indo-Pak)
Wagah border, the check post known as the window to Pakistan is another star attraction for every visitor from outside the state, 30km from Amritsar. The border security force has maintained the area well with lovely gardens, neat and clean roads. the foundation of flag staff was laid by Brig.Mohinder Sing Chopra in Oct 1947 and since then BSF is carrying out the drill. The flag lowering ceremony better known as the 'Retreat' is performed everyday, shortly before sunset, by BSF jawans on the Indian side and Pakistan rangers on the other side. For people of both countries, it is a major event and thousands of Indians and Pakistani Nationals assemble at their respective sides to watch the parade which is electrifying and full of patriotic fervors..
Ram Tirath Temple
Ram Tirath Temple is located at a distance of 11 kms from Amritsar. the temple dates back to the period of Ramayana. At the site there is a hut where Mata Sita gave birth to Luv and Kush. Even in the holy book of Hindus, 'The Ramayana', the place is mentioned significantly. Sita Mata came here aftet Lord Rama deserted her and got shelter in Maharishi Valmiki's hermitage . Sage Valmiki trained the children of Lord Ram, Luv and Kush and them proficient in all fileds, be it warfare or religious/social education. Annual fair is held in Ram Tirth in the month of November on the full moon day. the fair lasts for four days.
